Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre Officially Sworn into Office as CEO of the APRM

Algiers, Algeria November 20, 2024. Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre has been sworn-in as Chief Executive Officer of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Continental Secretariat on 20 November 2024, at the El-Mouradia Palace in Algiers, Algeria. The swearing-in was conducted in line with the Assembly Decision Dec.887(XXXVII) of the 37th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly of Heads of State and Government held from 17 to 18th February 2024 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 

The swearing-in was presided over by the Office of the Legal Counsel and in the presence of His Excellency Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and Chairperson of the APR Forum of Heads of State and Government.  Other participants at the ceremony included Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ambassador Inonge Mbikusita-Lewanika, Chairperson of the APRM Panel of Eminent Persons, senior members of the Algeria government and staff of the APRM Continental Secretariat.

Amb. Rose Quatre assumed office on June 3, 2024, and was appointed to lead the mechanism for a four-year renewable term. Among her priorities during her tenure is to position the APRM as the premier governance entity within the African Union, through leveraging the new 3P Strategy: Performance, Professionalism and Probity across all APRM structures. Ambassador Rose-Quatre brings her extensive diplomatic experience and performance-driven outlook to this task, and is dedicated to enhancing governance frameworks, accountability, and the aspirations of African citizens through an APRM that delivers its mandate with impact.

Under her leadership, the APRM Continental Secretariat has initiated transformative measures to improve the institution's visibility, efficiency, and delivery. These efforts include strengthening partnerships with African Union Member States, international partners, and civil society organisations to address critical governance challenges and develop resilient institutions.

The ceremony reflects the trust placed on Ambassador Rose Quatre by the APR Forum of Heads of State and Government. The APRM Secretariat is committed to supporting Ambassador Rose Quatre in her mission to ensure the Mechanism serves as a beacon of good governance and facilitates Africa's aspirations as articulated in Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.

About the APRM: The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is a specialized agency of the African Union, established in 2003. It functions as a voluntary self-monitoring tool for African Union Member States, aimed at promoting and strengthening governance in four thematic areas: Democracy and Political Governance, Economic Governance, Corporate Governance, and Socio-Economic Development.
