Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 15 February 2026 – On the margins of the 35th African Peer Review Forum, the leadership of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa of the Republic of Zimbabwe, following the successful peer review of Zimbabwe’s Targeted Review Report on Economic Governance and Management.
The APRM delegation was led by Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre, Chief Executive Officer of the APRM Secretariat. The delegation also included Ambassador Aly El Hefny, outgoing Chairperson of the APR Panel of Eminent Persons and Lead Panel Member for Zimbabwe’s Targeted Review mission, as well as Dr. Rachel Mukamunana, Director of Country Reviews at the APRM Secretariat.
The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the outcomes of Zimbabwe’s peer review and to discuss the next steps in the APRM process. President Mnangagwa expressed appreciation for the work of the Review Team, commending its adherence to APRM principles of transparency, inclusivity, technical rigour, and objectivity. He reaffirmed the Government of Zimbabwe’s commitment to implementing the recommendations contained in the Review Report as part of broader efforts to strengthen economic governance, promote accountability, and advance sustainable development.
The President further acknowledged the comprehensive nature of the field review mission, which covered all ten provinces of Zimbabwe and engaged a wide range of stakeholders, including Government institutions, the private sector, civil society, and local communities. This inclusive approach, he noted, was consistent with the Government’s development philosophy of “Leaving No One and No Place Behind,” which aims to ensure balanced and inclusive national development.
The APRM delegation congratulated President Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe on the successful completion of the peer review process, conducted in the spirit of African solidarity, peer learning, and mutual accountability. The delegation recognised ongoing policy and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability and improving public sector governance. Innovation hubs and major infrastructure development initiatives across several provinces were highlighted as potential platforms for intra-African experience sharing.
The delegation also briefed the President on the way forward, including the public launch of the Review Report, which will give Zimbabwean stakeholders and the broader international community the opportunity to engage with its findings. The launch will mark the beginning of the structured implementation phase of the Report’s recommendations.
