22 July 2024, Accra, Ghana – The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre, was warmly received by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at Jubilee House in Accra.
During the visit, Ambassador Rose Quatre briefed President Akufo-Addo on the upcoming National APRM Workshop scheduled to commence the following day. The workshop focuses on the development, harmonization, and integration of the APRM National Plan of Action derived from the targeted review report into Ghana’s existing long-term national development plans. She also discussed with President Akufo-Addo the prospects for the report to undergo peer review at an Extraordinary Summit of the APR Forum of Heads of State and Government in October 2024, as well as plans for the establishment of an Africa Credit Rating Agency by the APRM.
President Akufo-Addo welcomed Ambassador Rose Quatre and her delegation, which included the Chairperson of the APRM National Governing Council of Ghana (NAPRM-GC), the Most Reverend Prof. Emmanuel Asante, and members of the NAPRM-GC, along with senior officials of the APRM Continental Secretariat. The President commended the innovative approach of peer reviewing Targeted Review Reports, stating, “We are committed to the development of our economy, and Corporate Governance is vital for our economic health and capacity to deliver prosperity for our people.”
Ambassador Rose Quatre expressed satisfaction with Ghana’s steadfast commitment to the APRM process, a commitment that dates back more than 20 years since its first engagement with the APRM. She highlighted Ghana’s leadership in the peer review process, noting that Ghana was among the first two countries, alongside Rwanda, to undergo peer review by the APR Forum in January 2006. Ghana has continued to demonstrate leadership by submitting annual progress reports and establishing the West Africa Centre for the Advancement of APRM in 2010.
Under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghana hosted a targeted review mission from 27 February to 17 March 2023, focusing on the theme “APRM as a Catalyst for the Implementation of the AfCFTA”. The resulting report is slated for peer review in the latter half of 2024.
