Maseru, Lesotho – 6–8 December 2025 – The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) convened a three-day meeting to formally appoint and inaugurate the Editorial Board of the Africa Governance Seminar Series (AGOSS). The meeting marked a significant step towards strengthening the intellectual and institutional foundations of the Series, as the newly constituted Board officially commenced its mandate.
In the spirit of the Series, the primary objective of the meeting was to constitute the Editorial Board and initiate its core functions. These include providing strategic guidance, intellectual leadership, and rigorous quality assurance for the publication and dissemination of high-level research, policy papers, and other knowledge products generated under the AGOSS platform. Through this work, the Board is expected to enhance the relevance, credibility, and impact of governance discourse across the continent.
Moreover, the Editorial Board brings together a diverse group of distinguished scholars, policy experts, editors, reviewers, and practitioners drawn from across Africa, whose combined expertise strengthens the intellectual direction and editorial rigour of the Africa Governance Seminar Series.
Following its formal establishment, the Board began the review of manuscripts developed under the theme: “Securing Africa’s Financial Future through Effective Economic Governance and Management.” The papers under consideration explore critical issues related to Africa’s financial autonomy, including the role of the Africa Credit Rating Agency, the development of resilient local credit and currency frameworks, the mobilisation of domestic capital for development, and the importance of regional cooperation and the African Continental Free Trade Area in strengthening economic sovereignty.
To complement these deliberations, the Board undertook a courtesy visit to the Central Bank of Lesotho, where members gained first-hand insights into the institution’s work and contribution to Lesotho’s economic governance landscape. The visit provided an opportunity to deepen understanding of the architecture of the African central bank systems and their role in advancing continental development priorities, including the African Union Agenda 2063.
This important meeting concluded with focused working sessions during which Board members explored editorial and review tools, conducted preliminary assessments of the submitted manuscripts, and agreed on a clear roadmap for the publication of the second volume of the Africa Governance Insights, scheduled for 2026. These outcomes reaffirmed the Board’s collective commitment to advancing rigorous, policy-relevant knowledge and strengthening economic governance discourse on the continent.
