Midrand – 8 September 2025 — The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Continental Secretariat recently convened a National Dialogue and Data Validation Workshop in Swakopmund, Namibia, from 2 to 5 September 2025, marking a historic achievement as Namibia is the first APRM Member State to initiate the validation of the APRM Governance Index.

The workshop brought together a broad range of stakeholders, including senior government officials, civil society representatives, academics, and development partners. The initiative reflects Namibia’s strong commitment to democratic governance, institutional transparency, and evidence-based reform.

Organised in collaboration with the Namibian APRM National Secretariat, the workshop aimed to validate primary and secondary data sources, raise national awareness of the Governance Index, and identify priority areas to inform future assessments. It also served as a platform for peer learning and experience-sharing among African Union (AU) Member States.

The APRM Governance Index is a continental tool designed to assess governance performance across AU Member States using credible and locally sourced data. Its validation in Namibia is seen as a significant step toward strengthening data-driven governance reform and improving policy planning across Africa.

Namibia’s leadership in this inaugural process underscores its role as a trailblazer in promoting accountability, institutional development, and the core values of the African Union’s Agenda

  1. 2063. The country’s proactive engagement sets a strong example for other Member States preparing to undertake similar governance assessments in the future.
