APRM Participates in the Third African Union (AU) All-Directors Retreat

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 03-04 October 2024 – The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) participated in the Third African Union All-Directors Retreat organised by the African Union Commission’s Office of the Director-General (ODG).

The APRM delegation included the new Chief of Staff, Mr. Damien Thesee, who was introduced to H.E. Amb. Fathallah Sijilmassi, Director General of the African Union Commission, along with other leaders from key AU organs and departments. During the meeting, Ambassador Sijilmassi, who chaired the session, emphasized the vital role of the APRM in promoting good governance and highlighted its expanding mandate across the continent.

The expected outcomes of the retreat include enhanced internal coordination, improved budget planning and execution, and increased performance in implementing audit recommendations. By the end of the workshop, the AU will have collaboratively developed the Draft 2026 Budget Framework Paper (BFP), which is slated for adoption in November 2024. Additionally, participants will assess progress on key performance indicators for the African Union, including budget execution, performance execution, and the implementation of audit decisions.
