Bangui, 10 May 2023. The President of Central African Republic (CAR), His Excellency Faustin-Archange Touadéra received in audience an African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) delegation composed of Professor Eddy Maloka, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the APRM Continental Secretariat, Dr. Valery Yao, Coordinator of Universal Accession to APRM and Mrs. Arlette Yemek, Assistant to the CEO. Also in attendance was Mr. Obed Namiso, Chief of Staff at the Presidency.

In his statement, the CEO expressed his gratitude to the President and congratulated him as the current Chair of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC). He further provided a short presentation of the APRM and informed the President that 43 African countries currently participate in the Mechanism, representing 78% of the African Union (AU) Member States, that have voluntarily acceded to Mechanism. Central African Republic, despite its leading role, is one of those that are yet to join, noted the CEO. In line with the AU decision on Universal Accession, all countries should accede the APRM by 2023. Accordingly, the delegation extended an invitation from His Excellency Julius Maada BIO, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, and current Chairperson of the APR Forum to his counterpart, His Excellency Faustin-Archange Touadéra, inviting him to join the Mechanism at the forthcoming APR Forum.

His Excellency Faustin-Archange Touadéra congratulated the CEO for reaching out to his country. “There is no impediment to our accession”, he said. “I will take all necessary steps to ensure Central African Republic joins APRM at the forthcoming APR Forum. All state institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa will facilitate our accession”, he confirmed. Following the audience, Professor Eddy Maloka announced, with satisfaction, to the national and international media, the commitment of the President to ensure that Central African Republic officially becomes the 44th member of the APRM at the next Forum of Heads of State and Government to be held in 2024.
Prior to the courtesy call, the APRM delegation was received by Honourable Dr. Simplice Mathieu Sarandji, Speaker of the National Assembly and Mr. Guy-Eugène DEMBA, Chairperson of the High Authority for Good Governance.
