Official Launch of Targeted Review Mission of The Union of Comoros on Unconstitutional Changes of Government

Moroni, October 11, 2022 - The President of the Republic of the Union of the Comoros, H.E.M Azali Assoumani has successfully and officially launched the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Targeted Review Mission to the Union of the Comoros on Unconstitutional Changes of Government. The Targeted Review Mission will take place from 10 to 20 October 2022.

The Targeted Review Mission launch took place in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Diaspora and the Francophonie Affairs, also APRM Focal Point, H.E.M. Dhoihir Dhoulkamal, Members of Cabinet, Members of the Parliament, representatives of civil society organizations, the private sector, chancelleries. 

Dr. Ousman Diallo, Member of the APRM Panel of Eminent Persons leads the APRM Targeted Review Mission to the Union of the Comoros. The Mission is also composed of Prof. Eddy Maloka, Chief Executive Officer of the APRM, Dr. Rachel Mukamunana, Acting Director of Country Reviews and Assessments, Amb. Salvador Salvator Matata, Representative of COMESA, Mr. Hassan Mahamat Ahmat, APRM Continental Secretariat Coordinator of the Union of the Comoros, Mr. Hugues Manzila, APRM Continental Secretariat Researcher, Ms Dahlia N'goulakia, APRM Secretariat Logistics and Communication Officer and, finally, Eminent African Experts on thematic areas of the review mission.

Dr. Ousman Diallo, in his statement during the launch, was grateful to the People and Government of the Union of the Comoros for their warm welcome. He commended H.E. Mr. Azali Assoumani, for his personal commitment  to the principles of the African Union in particular respect for democratic principles, human rights, the rule of law, good governance and condemnation and rejection of unconstitutional changes of governments.
He went highlighted the context and the basis of the APRM Targeted Review Mission to the Union of the Comoros on Unconstitutional Changes of Government. He recalled that it is undertaken within the framework of the preparation of the Africa Governance Report which is prepared by the APRM in collaboration with the members of the of the Africa Governance Architecture Platform (AGA) and presented every two years to the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government during its its ordinary sessions. He also revealed that The Targeted Review Mission is carried out in accordance with the decision of the 16th Extraordinary Session of the AU Assembly on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government held in Malabo, Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

The President of the Republic of the Union of the Comoros H.E. Mr. Azali Assoumani, in his statement, welcomed the APRM delegation. He assured them of the speed in which the Union of Comoros has undertaken in acceding to the APRM and in promoting democracy and good governance.
 
In conclusion, H.E. Mr. Azali Assoumani, said: "Today, by launching the work of this Targeted Review of the Comoros, we would like to reassure you of our unfailing commitment to continue the fight for the consolidation of peace in our country, always, through an inclusive and responsible dialogue, in order to guarantee our people sustainable and sustained development”. He thus ended by committing all stakeholders of Comoros in ensuring collaboration with the Mission.
