Midrand, 14 March 2025 – The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Continental Secretariat, in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of South Africa through the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), is proud to announce the celebration of its 22nd Anniversary. This milestone event is organized in partnership with the APRM National Structures and supported by esteemed institutions including the University of South Africa (UNISA), the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), and the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD).
The celebration will take place on Monday, 24 March 2025, at the OR Tambo Building, Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), Pretoria, South Africa, from 09:00 to 14:00 hrs (South Africa Time).
Objective of the Celebration
The APRM 22nd Anniversary Celebration aims to:
- Showcase the APRM’s impact on governance in Africa, with a specific focus on the findings of the APRM Impact Study and the strategic and thematic areas of the APRM Third Strategic Plan (2025–2028).
- Reflect on the APRM’s achievements, challenges, and future direction in promoting good governance, democracy, and sustainable development across the continent.
- Foster dialogue and collaboration among the APRM Family, the African Diplomatic Community, academia, and other stakeholders to strengthen Africa’s governance architecture.
Highlights of the Event
- Launch of the APRM Third Strategic Plan (2025–2028): The event will feature the official launch of the APRM’s Third Strategic Plan by Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre, CEO of the APRM Continental Secretariat. The plan outlines the APRM’s strategic priorities and thematic areas for the next four years, focusing on enhancing governance, accountability, and continental integration.
Keynote Addresses and Statements
- H.E. Mr. Ranold Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, will deliver the opening statement.
- H.E. Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi, MP, Minister of Public Service and Administration and APRM Focal Point for the Republic of South Africa, will deliver the keynote address.
- A representative of the Embassy of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria will also make a statement, reflecting on Algeria’s role in the APRM process.
- Panel Discussions and Reflections: The event will feature insightful discussions on the APRM’s contributions to governance in Africa, challenges faced, and opportunities for the future.
