The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is currently undertaking a Sensitisation Mission in the Republic of Zimbabwe, in preparation for the country’s upcoming Targeted Review on Economic Governance and Management scheduled for August 2025. The Sensitisation Mission is led by Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre, Chief Executive Officer of the APRM Continental Secretariat.
The APRM is the African Union organ mandated to promote good governance across the continent. APRM’s mission to Zimbabwe is in response to an official request by the Government to conduct a targeted review focusing on the country’s Economic Governance and Management.
On Thursday, 29 May 2025, the APRM delegation paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Emmerson Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, at State House. The engagement was very fruitful and encouraging, with discussions centred on Zimbabwe’s preparedness for a targeted review mission later this year.
The delegation reaffirmed the APRM’s commitment to supporting Zimbabwe throughout this important governance exercise. The APRM is indeed pleased with the country’s readiness and the level of engagement demonstrated by all involved parties.
The APRM held a series of technical presentations and interactive sessions with members of Zimbabwe’s National Governing Council (NGC) and other key stakeholders. These sessions provided an overview of the APRM’s mandate and operational framework, detailed the roles and responsibilities of the NGC and stakeholders, and offered an in-depth briefing on the Economic Governance and Management thematic area.
Moreover, experience-sharing sessions were conducted with representatives from the Republic of Zambia and the Republic of Namibia, who generously shared insights and best practices from their own APRM review processes. Their contributions provided valuable context and guidance as Zimbabwe prepares for its review.
The APRM commends the Government and the people of Zimbabwe for their proactive commitment to this process. We look forward to continued collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure the success of the forthcoming review.
