APRM CEO, Amb. Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre, Received by the Minister of Justice of Senegal

21 August 2024, Dakar, Senegal – Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), and her delegation held a productive meeting with Mr. Ousmane Diagne, Minister of Justice of Senegal, to provide an overview of the APRM processes and mechanisms. This engagement aimed to familiarize the new administration with the APRM’s core values, mission, and ongoing activities, with a focus on presenting the Targeted Review Report on the topic “Mineral Resources at the Heart of Structural Transformation of the Senegalese Economy” at the next APR Forum.

During the meeting, the APRM CEO emphasized the role of the Mechanism in advancing good governance, accountability, and sustainable development across Africa. She highlighted the importance of peer learning and self-assessment among Member States to enhance policy outcomes and foster socio-economic transformation on the continent.

The discussion also focused on the Targeted Review Report, which aims to assess governance structures and practices in the mineral sector and offer recommendations to improve transparency, accountability, and sustainable management of the nation’s natural resources. Following the APRM methodology, the CEO extended a formal invitation to Country’s authorities, particularly the President of the Republic, to present the Targeted Review Report at the upcoming APR Forum of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for October 2024. This forum, which convenes leaders from across the continent, provides a unique platform for sharing experiences, exchanging best practices, and discussing strategies to advance good governance in Africa.

Minister Diagne welcomed the APRM’s initiative and reaffirmed the new administration’s commitment to transparency, good governance, and inclusive development. He also expressed a strong willingness to collaborate with the APRM at the Continental and National levels to ensure the successful completion and presentation of the Targeted Review Report.

The two-day mission concluded with a courtesy visit to the National Governing Council (NGC) where the APRM CEO and her delegation met with the NGC President and several members. The meeting ended with mutual appreciation for APRM’s vital role in promoting good governance and a commitment from both sides to collaborate closely in advancing APRM’s objectives in Senegal and across Africa.
