I would like to extend my congratulations to the Government and People of the Arab Republic of Egypt for the successful organization of the 4th edition of Aswan Forum, which took place in Cairo from 2-3 July under the theme: “Africa in a Changing World: Re-envisioning Global Governance for Peace and Development”. I want to seize this opportunity to equally commend the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) – the main organiser of the forum –, and other strategic partners for their great efforts and hospitality provided to us during our stay in Cairo.
Africa is going through a critical time of its human transformation. While the continent is faced with multi-faceted challenges, ranging from poverty, unemployment, lack of basic services to interruptive conflicts, good governance lies at the heart of this debate on enhancing citizens’ trust in their government, the rule of law and respect for human rights.
The Aswan Forum offered an excellent African platform for AU organs, politicians and policy makers alongside women and youth organizations amongst other civil society representatives to interact and reflect on our realities and generate innovative solutions to address complex issues including the future of African peace and security, radicalization, early warning and the inclusion of youth and women in peace processes.
Congratulations and thank you once again for leading the discussions on good governance towards the Africa we want.
