07 November 2023 Midrand, South Africa. Prof Eddy Maloka, Chief Executive Officer of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and Dr Holger Dix of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation signed a Memorandum of Agreement on the 7th of November 2023 in Midrand, South Africa. The organizations will be collaborating on the Pan-African Inter-Party Dialogue on Democracy (PAIPD) and host their first series of regional engagements, commencing with the Southern African Conference scheduled for January 2024. The aim of the political party conference is to deliberate and share experiences on party constitutionalism, intra-party democracy and leadership towards improved national development processes.
The Southern African Conference will invite representatives from National Assemblies and Political Parties from African Union Member States and strategic partners from umbrella institutions whose mandates relate to Political Parties and governance. The platform was established and will further the goal of bringing together all ruling political parties in African Union Member States and the top two main opposition political parties represented in national parliaments to deliberate on a possible common framework for enhancing the role of political parties in democratic governance for national development and the realisation of Agenda 2063: the Africa We Want. The APRM and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation share similar missions and wish to cooperate further on various programmes to enhance the effectiveness of their efforts.
