Machakos, Kenya – 26-28 February 2025 – The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) successfully participated in a Training of Trainers Workshop on Structural Vulnerability Assessment (SVA) and Country Structural Vulnerability and Resilience Assessment (CSVRA) for Kenyan stakeholders. The workshop, organized by the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), aimed to enhance the capacity of Kenyan stakeholders in preparation for the upcoming Kenya CSVRA process, which will assess and address structural vulnerabilities that could lead to conflict. The Kenya CSVRA process is scheduled for May 2025, with the official report to be launched in October 2025 during the COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit.

The APRM was represented by Ms. Ache Seid Abakar from the APRM Continental Secretariat, who delivered a presentation on the APRM framework for Structural Conflict Prevention. She underscored the importance of addressing the root causes of conflict through good governance, democracy, and sustainable economic development. Ms. Ache Seid Abakar expressed appreciation for COMESA's initiative in organizing the workshop and stated that the APRM was pleased to have contributed to the capacity-building efforts of Kenyan stakeholders.

The APRM’s participation in this workshop reflects its ongoing commitment to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with COMESA, aimed at supporting African countries in promoting good governance, peace, stability, and sustainable development. Moving forward, the APRM will continue to collaborate closely with COMESA and its member states, including Kenya, to strengthen their capacities to address structural vulnerabilities and prevent conflicts.

The event brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including representatives from COMESA, the African Union Commission (AUC), the East African Community (EAC), government officials, civil society organizations, experts, and development partners.
