Washington, D.C., April 21, 2025 – A delegation of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), attending the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings, today briefed H.E. Ambassador Hilda Suka-Mafudze, African Union (AU) Ambassador to the United States of America on Africa’s priorities in reshaping the global financial architecture.
Throughout the week, the APRM will convene a series of high-level engagements aimed at advancing Africa’s development financing agenda. On April 23, the Mechanism will host a High-Level Panel on Developing a Credit Ratings Ecosystem in Africa, focusing on strategies to strengthen the continent’s sovereign creditworthiness and attract affordable financing. Later in the week, on April 25, the APRM will organize an Experts Forum on Leveraging Multilateral Partnerships to Lower the Cost of Capital, where participants will discuss practical solutions to address systemic barriers impeding access to sustainable development financing.
In parallel, the African Union Mission to the United States will host a series of high-level discussions. On April 23, a session titled Africa-Led Solutions to Debt Challenges will examine the G20 Common Framework and propose reforms tailored to African contexts. This will be followed on April 25 by a joint presentation on Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development in Africa, which will also explore strategies for Accelerating the Africa’s Development in a Multipolar World.
The APRM delegation—comprising Dr. McBride Nkhalamba, Ms. Tumi Dlamini, Dr. Misheck Mutize, and Ms. Ejigayhu Tefera—will also hold a roundtable with the World Bank’s Africa Regional Office teams to discuss governance reforms for state-owned enterprises (SOEs), debt sustainability, and AU support to Member States on credit ratings.
“These engagements underscore Africa’s proactive role in advocating for equitable financial systems and mobilizing resources to drive sustainable development,” said Ambassador Suka-Mafudze during the briefing. “By strengthening partnerships, we can unlock transformative capital for our continent”, she added optimistically.
These events reflect the APRM’s strong commitment to advancing Africa’s agenda in global economic governance.
