Accra, 07 November 2024 – The African Union Commission (AUC) organised a capacity building workshop for Finance and Strategic Planning experts in the African Union system. The training focused on Results-Based Management (RBM) and Multiyear Planning and Budgeting (MYP). The APRM Continental Secretariat was represented by staff from the Strategic Planning and Budget divisions, Ms. Delice Zakeyo and Ms. Nana Nompumelelo Nditha, respectively.

In her opening remarks at the capacity building workshop, Ms Edith Akorfa Akua Lumor, Director of Finance, AUC, emphasized the importance of RBM and Multiyear planning as pillars of program management. She spoke of the importance of using clear indicators to measure success and tracking progress as the management scholar Peter Drucker said, “...only what gets measured, gets managed, and what gets managed gets improved…”

Having recognised RBM and MYP as key pillars of efficient project and program management, the AUC Commission engaged Deloitte Ghana to facilitate the capacity building workshop. The core elements of the training entailed:

  1. RBM and its components
  2. Strategic planning and budget alignment
  3. Multiyear budgeting
  4. Risk management in multiyear budgeting.
  5. Risk management

As the APRM embarks on the development of the Strategic Plan 2025- 2028, it is imperative that it embrace the principles of RMB to ensure the following: a) that APRM Strategic Objectives are effectively aligned with resources in driving sustainable outcomes; b) that the APRM’ s work is anchored on a strategy-driven budget which facilitates effective resource allocation and accountability at the APRM Continental Secretariat; c) and the need to incorporate a Risk Management Framework that will assist in navigating risk and uncertainties.
